This infrared image shows the Cape D'Or lighthouse on the shores of the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia. In the monochrome image, the last rocky remnant of the Cape extends out into the Bay of Fundy at the entrance to the Minas Basin. A little turbulence is visible in the water in this image but on a stormy day the combination of extreme tidal flows (the tides here vary >15-m each flushing of the Basin) and wind can push up huge standing waves in these dangerous waters.
