This image, of a wild golden eagle swooping in over a snowy field, was shot late in the afternoon in early-March 2018, in the northern boreal forest of Skelleftea, Sweden. Being Canadian-born and -raised, I have admired Robert Bateman's wildlife painting style for decades now; I found that the light in the Swedish forest on this late-winter trip gave me an opportunity to go for a slightly Bateman-like look, making one need to take a close look to determine if it is a photo or painting.
